how to build the perfect Amazon shot list for your product launch

by | Nov 11, 2021

one of the first steps to launching your online store is knowing what content is allowed on each marketplace: Shopify has a set of content rules while Amazon has an entirely different list of requirements. without having a clear understanding of what types of photos – or even what size photo – is allowed – you could be wasting dollars and time.

Amazon has a few very specific rules that differ from other platforms in an effort to keep listings clear and consistent.

the main one: requiring a product-on-white shot as the main image (aka the hero image). Amazon requires every main image to:

  • have a pure white background
  • feature the product clearly without any accessories. props. text. logos. watermarks. or in-set images
  • be very high quality — no blurriness or pixelation allowed

it may seem like these guidelines are restrictive but we won’t ever downplay the value of crystal clear product photography that shows your customer exactly what they’ll be getting. in fact: we suggest you include a few product-on-white shots from different angles to really cover your bases.

once you’ve satisfied these requirements: it’s time to have some fun with your product photography. here at soona we believe ecomm product photos can be clear. beautiful. consistent. fun. and successful at driving revenue. you really can have it all!
