July 2023 Newsletter: Trend acquisition

When I sold my first company, I was full of jitters and questions. Was this the right decision? The right time? Could I ever possibly build a profitable business again?

When I sold my first company, I was full of jitters and questions. Was this the right decision? The right time? Could I ever possibly build a profitable business again?

It turned out that I never needed to feel so unsure. Over time, it would become clear that I made not only the right decision, but I made the decision that would give me the necessary knowledge to pursue soona. Looking back on that now to today, it’s even more exciting for me to now be doing another new thing: my first transaction from the purchasing side. 

In case you missed it: soona recently announced our first acquisition: Trend.io.

Launched in 2018, Trend’s approach to user generated content (UGC) has helped over 1,500 companies show off their product with authentic social content.  When I sat down with the founders, Ramon and Zach, to discuss joining forces, there was a component that felt especially clear:  we all cared deeply about the power of creativity.

At different points in my career, I have been faced with that “blank page” feeling. You know the one. The one where you know you need to “be creative” but it somehow isn’t falling into place as easily as you would hope. With soona, I hoped to take that away for folks like you. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by all that can be, we hope to show you how awesome everything you can do with us WILL be. Instead of imagining something from nothing, we hope to let you take a set of starting ideas and expand them.  That’s what attracted us to Trend. They make user generated content feel less daunting and distinctly more collaborative for both brands and creators.

As a personal point of reflection, I am especially thrilled to be on the buying side of the table at this moment. In part because it means I am working to make our experience better for you. But also, it helps us get closer to our ultimate vision of being a single location for content creation... Every business owner has dreams and aspirations. Sure, expansion is nice. But expansion that helps us be a better partner to you? Yeah, that feels like a double win. 

Today,  I believe more than ever in the power of creativity to help brands sell more products. But only when the content is relevant and purpose built. 

Trend helps us expand that relevance in a meaningful way.
